Adam Weinberg

DIRECTOR, THE WHITNEY MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART

This is the year of the Whitney, which opened its bigger and shinier new location—designed by Renzo Piano—in Lower Manhattan this past spring. Visitors mourning the museum’s move from Marcel Breuer’s beloved Brutalist monument were treated to light-filled interiors, expansive views of the Hudson River, and open decks overlooking the cobblestone streets of the Meatpacking District. Weinberg’s first show in the new building is the fantastic “America is Hard to See” (through Sept. 1). It features more than 600 permanent-collection works, some of which haven’t been exhibited in decades.
