DESIGNER OF THE DAY

Designer of the Day: Bower Studios

With a defining spirit of playfulness and discovery, Danny Giannella, Jeffrey Renz, and Tammer Hijazi, the trio behind Bower Studios, aim to inject interiors with unexpected perspectives and a dose of serenity. They accomplish this by focusing on mirrors—objects intimately close to the human consciousness—rendered in satisfyingly simple shapes and materials.

Gray Matters

The most important thing you’ve designed to date: Probably our Cylinder Mirror. This was the shape that made the jump from our furniture to a wall mirror. It showed how well our geometric language translated into this new category.

Describe the problem your work solves: All of our pieces have their respective functions, but more generally, we like to think that we infuse a little unexpected touch into everyday objects that people live with, adding a little spark of magic into their day. In other words, the problem we’re solving is predictability in what we live with and use every day.

Describe the project you’re working on now: We’re designing a collection of furniture with a historical architectural foundation inspired by the architect’s body of work. Look out for more info soon! 😉

A new or forthcoming project we should know about: We’ve just completed designing our largest collection to date. We took advantage of the limitations imposed on us by quarantine and had fun with some of the marketing material and imagery for the launch coming this fall.

What you absolutely must have in your studio: Definitely music all the time. Keeps the energy up and going all day, and helps us all ride the same vibes.

What you do when you’re not working: Riding by bike and listening to music (Danny). I work a little bit more (Jeffrey). Gardening (Tammer).

Sources of creative envy: Leonardo da Vinci. Love a good polymath (Danny). The love child of Elon Musk and Frank Lloyd Wright (Jeffrey). Drake (Tammer).

The distraction you want to eliminate: Screens (Danny and Jeffrey). Laser pointers (Tammer). .
