Opening Shot: The Fat Radish Welcomes a Sister in The South

The NYC farm-to-table favorite has opened a second location, this time under the hot southern sun.

The NYC farm-to-table favorite has opened a second location, this time under the hot southern sun.

Opening Shot is a column that peeks inside new hotels, restaurants, bars, and shops with interiors to drool over.

The Fat Radish

Location: Savannah, Georgia

Designer: Basic Projects

On Offer: Famous for its seasonal farm-to-table dishes with a focus on vegetables, The Fat Radish has added a new outpost. Located within the Windrose Apartment Hotel, the second site adds a little Southern charm to its already stellar offerings. Nick Wilber, the chef behind the original location, is taking care of the kitchen here as well.

But it’s not just the food that’s being transported south: The Fat Radish Savannah also offers the same sort of casual space that focuses on the intimate relationship between patrons and their meals, but with the addition of local amenities unavailable in its first location. Patrons can expect a long beverage list of local beers and spirits, as well as balanced dishes that feature locally sourced and seasonally available greens.

Standout Feature: The Southern touch is felt throughout warm, light-filled space, which is done up with natural hues such as the green tint of the plaster that mimics the brand’s focus on vegetables. The rows of plants that line the entrance, rounded corners, soft fabrics, and milk glass lighting help to create a welcoming ease here. The real highlight, of course, is the food. Patrons can expect dishes such as green peanut hummus, charred summer pepper and tomato bread salad, and house-made donuts with seasonal jam.
