Describe what you make: I make objects from and about jewelry and other personal possessions.
The most important thing you’ve designed to date: A set of rules for my work. There are endless wonderful distractions out there, and these rules return me to my path.
Describe the problem your work solves: I see the proliferation of man-made stuff as a sort of fundamental problem. What do we think we are doing accumulating like we’ll never die, when in reality most of our possessions will outlive us? Artwork is no exception, so my challenge is to make without making more. My answer to this particular problem is consolidation.
Describe the project you are working on now: My first show with Sienna Patti Contemporary recently opened. “Inheritance” is on view through October 19. It’s 2020 so you can also catch it online.
A new or forthcoming project we should know about: I’m working on a small series around the election. It’s a follow up to recent work with devotional medals that’s more specific to this time. November is around the corner.
What you absolutely must have in your studio: Loud music and late nights. I keep the space undecorated and internet-free.
What you do when you’re not working: I read everything I can. My strongest influences come from writing and music.
Sources of creative envy: Do creativity and envy flow from the same source? I envy the way a song can follow you home and through the rest of your life
The distraction you want to eliminate: Ugh, clothing. Fit me for my futuristic jumpsuit already.
Concrete or marble? Metal, of course.
