Tyler Ellis

LJ Handbag

Tyler Ellis, the daughter of esteemed fashion designer Perry Ellis, began her eponymous handbag and accessories line in 2011. Ten years later, her bold, colorful clutches and pouches are frequently spotted on red carpets. Ellis’s collections marry the quality of material expected of large fashion houses with the charm of a boutique brand. The brand’s signature look—typified by seasonless styles, unique silhouettes, practical functionality, fine leathers, and eye-catching details—is one of unpretentious luxury.

One of Ellis’s most popular offerings is the LJ Handbag, which perhaps embodies the brand’s ethos best. The semi-structured bag features a triangular front flap finished with a custom spear-lock closure, handmade whipstitch detail, pinecone feet, and electric blue lining. Its latest iteration marries Ellis’s universal design with a distinctly Californian motif, courtesy of visual artist Matt Rogers. Best known for his “Dark Horse” series of paintings, Rogers hand-paints impasto palm trees onto pristine, white-calf leather before the material is shipped to Italy for assembly. This limited-edition, made-to-order edition comes in two sizes and a variety of harmonious accent colors for the handle and whipstitch detailing.

Two versions of the LJ painted palm tree handbags are currently on showcase at Surface Area, our gallery and showroom in the Miami Design District (151 NE 41st Street, Suite 119).
