Hellen Obiri, the women’s winner of the New York City Marathon, set a record in On’s spray-on shoes.

Hellen Obiri broke the New York City Marathon course record on Sunday, finishing in 2:19:51 and surpassing Margaret Okayo’s 2003 mark by nearly three minutes. The Kenyan runner, already a two-time Boston Marathon champion, achieved the win wearing On’s experimental Cloudboom Strike LS, a lightweight “spray-on” shoe that has yet to reach full retail release. Obiri led a Kenyan sweep of the women’s podium, joined by Sharon Lokedi and Sheila Chepkirui.

The entirety of the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts has been fired.

President Trump has dismissed all seven members of the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts, an independent federal body that oversees design and architecture in Washington, D.C. The move came as the panel prepared to review proposals for a White House ballroom and a planned triumphal arch. The administration plans to install new members who align more closely with Trump’s “America First” agenda, according to officials. The commission, established in 1910, has faced political turnover before, including President Biden’s removal of Trump appointees in 2021.

At Fondation Beyeler, The Chanel Culture Fund has endowed the first Chanel Botanical Curator position.

The Chanel Culture Fund and Fondation Beyeler have created the first Chanel Botanical Curator position, naming researcher Rahel Kesselring to the role. Based at the Swiss museum, Kesselring will collaborate with artists, scientists, and curators to integrate ecological research and conservation into the institution’s programming. The position extends the museum’s curatorial mission beyond its galleries to the surrounding landscape, formalizing its long-standing dialogue between art and nature. The partnership reflects Chanel’s broader effort to connect cultural practice with environmental stewardship.

One of Joseph Esherick’s original Sea Ranch homes has been listed for $1.4 million.

One of Joseph Esherick’s original Sea Ranch demonstration homes has gone on the market for $1.4 million. Built in 1970 and expanded in 2014 by architect Donlyn Lyndon, the property spans 1,590 square feet with a detached studio and ocean views filtered through a cypress hedgerow. The home preserves Esherick’s vision of site-sensitive design, blending natural materials and landscape integration. Located steps from the coast, it remains part of the experimental architectural legacy that defined Sea Ranch’s early development.

Sotheby’s will auction Maurizio Cattelan’s gold toilet at a starting bid of $10 million.

Sotheby’s will auction Maurizio Cattelan’s America, an 18-karat gold toilet sculpture, on November 18 with a starting bid of $10 million. Cast from more than 100 kilograms of solid gold, the fully functional work will be priced according to its bullion value, with cryptocurrency accepted as payment. The piece, first installed at the Guggenheim Museum in 2016 and later stolen from Blenheim Palace, is the only surviving edition. The sale follows last year’s $6.2 million auction of Cattelan’s Comedian and will be exhibited in a working restroom at Sotheby’s New York headquarters before the bidding opens.
