The Shelborne by Proper

Location: Miami

Designer: ADC Atelier

On Offer:

When The Shelborne first opened its doors in 1941, it served as a beacon of Miami’s trademark Art Deco style. Now, a thoughtful renovation filters its original aesthetic through a modern-day lens.

Eschewing the tropical print motifs and pink-and-green color scheme that have come to define the Magic City, ADC Atelier draped the historic property in earthy tones, from high-gloss travertine floors and Perlino marble accents to a hand-dyed silk installation from artist Kenny Nguyen in the lobby. Original touches remain: the serpentine sign above the porte-cochère, the 18th Street façade, the iconic ’50s diving board. But between its new garb and lineup of late-night DJ sets, the refreshed landmark feels born anew.

Standout Features:

Mornings kick off in the café, where guests in oversized sunglasses pause for ube lattes before making their daily pilgrimage to the pool. Out back, waiters in turquoise terrycloth uniforms hasten between the sea green loungers, delivering red prawn ceviche in sour orange vinaigrette and chilled bottles of rosé. The revelry continues at the lobby bar, over guava-tinged South Beach Spritzes and avocado oil-washed martinis. Schedule an early—or late—morning green juice delivery.
