Scientists and designers have collaborated on a bag made from Tyrannosaurus rex collagen.
Scientists and designers have unveiled a one-of-a-kind handbag made using lab-grown collagen derived from Tyrannosaurus rex fossils. Created by inserting ancient protein fragments into living cells to produce collagen that is then processed into leather, the project highlights advances in biotechnology while positioning the bag as a high-end collectible expected to auction for over $500,000. The concept has sparked debate among scientists, many of whom argue that fragmentary fossil collagen cannot truly recreate dinosaur skin or “T. rex leather.”

V&A East Museum, designed by O’Donnell + Tuomey, will open in London’s Olympic Park as a striking pyramidal building clad in concrete panels, etched with patterns referencing the V&A logo. Positioned alongside the London College of Fashion and opposite the Olympic stadium, the structure was conceived as a distinct cultural landmark within the East Bank development, with a bold, window-light exterior that emphasizes identity and visibility across the site. Described by the architects as a “jacket,” the building balances protection and accessibility—shielding its contents while inviting visitors through outward-angled facades facing a new public square.
