This Barcelona Boutique Channels an Art Deco Film Set

Even in the era of the multifaceted concept shop, the cinematic Darial stuns.

Opening Shot is a column that peeks inside new hotels, restaurants, bars, and shops with interiors to drool over.

DARIAL

Designer: Djaba Diassamidze

Location: Barcelona

On Offer: Immense golden palm tree-shaped pillars, coromandel screens, and original furniture by 20th-century masters Pierre Chareau and Serge Roche set a cinematic vibe at this multipurpose concept space in Barcelona’s Dreta de l’Eixample neighborhood, inspired by the decadence of Alain Resnais’ French New Wave film, Last Year in Marienbad. Fashion designer Djaba Diassamidze puts his eclectic curatorial eye to use, resulting in a melange of wares: earbuds by Swedish brand Happy Plugs, Mariage Frères teas, rare design tomes, Impossible Project polaroid cameras, and apparel from leading fashion labels, among other offerings.

Standout Features: Furthering the trend of blending retail, art, and hospitality, a gallery housed in a cement arcade hosts rotating exhibitions, and the brasserie-style Le Léopard restaurant turns out contemporary European cuisine inside a glamorous space fitted with refurbished 19th-century red velvet banquettes and gold leaf ceilings inspired by Italian theatre director Luchino Visconti’s eponymous 1963 film.
