Throughout The Future Perfect’s New York City townhouse, three spring solo exhibitions—Lindsey Adelman’s “The Hardware Diaries,” Faye Toogood’s “Lucid Dream,” and Kristin Victoria Barron’s “Plume”—spotlight compelling creations by leading women designers today. The contemporary design platform has punctuated these showcases with additional pieces by Venice, Italy-based multidisciplinary designer Lucia Massari and Finnish ceramic artist Riikka Piippo. Altogether, it’s a powerhouse presentation of works by women.

With “Lucid Dream,” staged between the townhouse’s lower level and garden, and also at Alex Tieghi-Walker’s beloved design gallery TIWA Select, Toogood presents poetic one-of-one pieces, many painted by hand. Barron presents her latest sculptural body within “Plume,” including highly imaginative light fixtures with mesmerizing, patinated bodies that nod to animal archetypes and invoke subconscious imaginings. And in “The Hardware Diaries,” Adelman couples illuminated sculptures of glass and metal with works on paper. Bearing the significance of being her first show with The Future Perfect in over a decade, the exhibition provides a window into Adelman’s artistry, and her relationship to storytelling.

In recognition of this focus, the Female Design Council (FDC)—the advocacy organization and membership network for women in design, architecture, and the applied arts—is set to fête the concurrent exhibitions on May 20. “The five on view engage with different materials and craft in brilliant, innovative ways, and the gallery’s decision to show all women this May is an initiative we applaud,” Angharad Coates, the director of the Female Design Council, shares with Surface. The FDC affirmation will bring additional attention to a series worth exploring in person—while they’re up.
