Frieze Los Angeles, Felix Art Fair, and an array of exhibitions will open this week.
Frieze Los Angeles 2026 returns to the Santa Monica Airport from February 26 to March 1, with 95 international galleries—including Hauser & Wirth, Gagosian, and David Zwirner—participating alongside prominent L.A.-based organizations such as Matthew Brown and Commonwealth and Council. Curator Essence Harden is once again directing the “Focus” section, set to feature 15 emerging U.S. galleries. Beyond Frieze, programming includes events like the Felix Art Fair at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel, the opening of never-before-seen spaces within The Future Perfect’s Goldwyn House, and more. Further, the fair coincides with marquee exhibitions at the Getty, Hammer Museum, and The Broad.
South Africa will not host a pavilion at this year’s Venice Biennale.
South Africa will not participate in the 2026 Venice Biennale after its Arts and Culture Minister, Gayton McKenzie, overruled an independent curatorial panel and canceled the country’s planned pavilion project, which had selected artist Gabrielle Goliath and curator Ingrid Masondo to present the work Elegy. A high court also dismissed Goliath’s attempt to reinstate the exhibition hours before the Biennale’s submission deadline. McKenzie later terminated his department’s contract with the nonprofit that organized the pavilion, and officials confirmed no alternative South African exhibition is planned this year.
The final piece of the central tower of Gaudí’s Sagrada Familia has been put in place.
Barcelona’s Sagrada Família has taken a major step toward completion with the installation of its central tower, known as the Tower of Jesus Christ, which was lifted into place on February 19. The 172-meter-tall tower—designed by Antoni Gaudí and decades in the making—will be the tallest structure in Barcelona and is part of the long-anticipated culmination of the church’s construction, which began in 1882; interior work and additional facades are expected to continue before an official completion date.
Snow Seeds stickers for skis and snowboards can generate snowfall.
Central Saint Martins design graduate Tanay Wadodkar has developed snow-generating “stickers” that help ski resorts fight the effects of climate change—potentially reducing reliance on energy-intensive snowmaking machines. Wadodkar’s Snow Seeds, which contain a mineral salt made from silver and iodine, evaporate, enter the air, and attract water to form snowflakes while in the clouds.
Paris lighting studio Ozone celebrated 25 years with an exhibition at Templon Gallery.
Paris-based design studio Ozone, founded in 2000 by Etienne Gounot and Éric Jähnke, marked 25 years of lighting developments with a major U.S. exhibition titled “Dawn Light.” The show—the largest Ozone exhibition ever in the United States—was on view within New York’s Templon Gallery. It presented popular designs like Brasilia (designed by Michel Boyer in 1974 and produced by Ozone in 2011), Furtiv (by Gaëlle Lauriot-Prévost and Dominique Perrault), Tennessee (by Glenn Sestig), and Embrun, and explored the inspirations and materials behind each creation.
