The latest collection of multidisciplinary artist José Lévy’s Les Endiablés pieces for historic French hand-cut crystal house Saint-Louis continues to defy categorization. Imbued with a sense of whimsy and wonder, each can act as a vase, cup, candlestick holder, or sculpture. The Parisian artist—a Knight of the French Order of Arts and Letters, and the creative director of the France pavilion at the World Expo 2025 in Osaka—first introduced Les Endiablés in 2011. These playful additions further Lévy’s imaginative partnership with the maison.
José Lévy Designs Colorful, Charismatic Les Endiablés Crystal Pieces for Saint-Louis

“Les Endiablés was born from a spontaneous, almost impetuous impulse and creative overflow of ideas,” Lévy tells Surface. “At the origin, Saint-Louis had commissioned three vases, but—carried away with enthusiasm—I sketched eight. My process is guided by curiosity, true to the spirit of freedom and play that drives me.”
Perhaps the collection’s greatest strength lies in Lévy’s marriage of charismatic forms to statement-making colors. “The palette—chartreuse, amethyst, flannel gray, deep greens, and vibrant blues—is chosen to make light dance, transforming each piece into a playmate one longs to turn, upend, collect, and simply admire,” he adds. “Les Endiablés appear as true crystal dolls where color is part of the story as it amplifies the freedom and playfulness at the heart of the collection.”
