Designer Kelly Wearstler has debuted her first piano collaboration, Timbra, created with the British atelier Edelweiss. A frequent collaborator, Edelweiss has long designed custom pieces for Wearstler’s interiors projects. Handcrafted in Cambridge, England from layered birchwood veneer, Timbra’s contours and curves not only translate Wearstler’s sensorial design values but reference the movement of sound waves. Beneath its sculptural, rimless exterior—developed using a digital CAD model and produced with state-of-the-art CNC machinery—the piano incorporates a patented, welded steel frame and a Sitka spruce soundboard for acoustic performance.

“I wanted to create something that felt like sculpture first and piano second, without ever compromising the sound,” Wearstler says in a statement. “When people encounter it, I want them to feel something unexpected; to see a work of art before realizing it’s also a beautifully crafted instrument.” Beyond its artistic presence, the piece adheres to Edelweiss’ sonic excellence, a fit for experts, and even includes self-playing technology for music lovers who want something to play with the touch of a button.
