More than 50 sculptural works by designer Lee Broom now reside in the historic house that acts as Mexico City-based lighting specialist Diez Company’s showroom. This installation, titled “The Resident,” imbues the spectacular space with the materials, textures, and meditative radiance that have become Broom’s signatures. As with the designer’s other experiential exhibitions, the Diez residency is not only seen but felt; from room to room, it unlocks a sense of discovery. Glowing highlights are plentiful—from the cascade of Broom’s Hail Chandelier in the central atrium to the matte gold bathroom, where Chant chandeliers and portable lamps form a grid.
Lee Broom Transforms Diez Company’s Historic House

“One of the reasons I enjoy creating exhibitions and installations is the opportunity to take people on a journey, to offer something that goes beyond the physical object and invites a more emotional response,” Broom tells Surface. “When Diez Company and I began discussing this collaboration for Mexico City Art Week, their historic villa immediately felt like the perfect setting. The sequence of rooms and corridors allows the exhibition to unfold gradually, guiding visitors through this play of light in a way that continually shifts their perception of my work.”
For Broom, the architecture offered a starting point for his design intervention. “This building shapes the atmosphere and creates moments of surprise, presenting my designs in ways they may not have been experienced before,” he adds.” Though installed for Mexico City Art Week, “The Resident” will remain on view through April 10. It also marks the designer’s Mexico debut.
