The former director of the Philadelphia Art Museum has sued over her abrupt firing.

Former Philadelphia Art Museum director and CEO Sasha Suda has filed a lawsuit against the museum, claiming wrongful termination, breaches of contract, and unfair treatment after clashing with a faction of the board of trustees. The complaint alleges that an executive committee worked to undermine her, including questioning her compensation and commissioning a forensic investigation that found no misconduct. Suda’s lawsuit highlights her achievements at the museum, including exceeding fundraising goals and dramatically increasing student visits, while arguing that her abrupt firing jeopardizes her ability to remain in the U.S. The museum has declined to comment in detail, stating it considers the claims without merit.

The French government accused the Louvre of prioritizing aesthetic projects over security.

France’s state auditor accused the Louvre of diverting funds toward high-visibility projects while neglecting basic safety infrastructure. The report cited repeated delays to security modernization and noted that fewer than half of the museum’s rooms had functioning surveillance cameras, even after a $102 million jewel theft in October. Auditors criticized management for spending heavily on acquisitions and expansion plans—including a new entrance and a separate chamber for the Mona Lisa—instead of addressing fire prevention and crowd control. The government called the findings a warning that the world’s most visited museum must rebalance its priorities toward protection and maintenance.

Marlene Dumas is the first contemporary woman artist whose work has been acquired by the Louvre.

Marlene Dumas has become the first contemporary female artist to enter the Louvre’s permanent collection, with nine of her paintings from the series Liaisons now on display in the Denon Wing. The Dutch-South African painter is known for her gestural figures and unconventional color palettes that explore human emotion and intimacy. Dumas has long commanded critical and commercial attention, including representing the Netherlands at the Venice Biennale and achieving record auction prices for her work. Her acquisition at the Louvre comes amid broader museum initiatives to diversify the collection, even as the institution faces scrutiny over delayed security upgrades and budget priorities.
