Inside Opening Night for Yancey Richardson’s ‘Celebrating 30 Years’ Exhibition

In “Celebrating 30 Years,” gallery owner Yancey Richardson worked in collaboration with her illustrious roster of artists to curate an exhibition of photography, film, and lens-based media that reflects her three decades of commitment to these art forms. Open through Aug. 15, the expansive showcase encapsulates various styles, perspectives, and techniques—an inspiring cause for celebration as much as the gallery’s own thirtieth anniversary and the nearly 290 exhibitions it has hosted. To celebrate opening night, some of Richardson’s artists represented in the show—including Mickalene Thomas, Mitch Epstein, Mary Lum, and Omar Barquet—and other influential art-world figures gathered in the Chelsea exhibition space for an indelible ode to the art form.
