From sound, video, and installation artists Basel Abbas and Ruanne Abou-Rahme, the exhibition “Prisoners of Love: Until the Sun of Freedom” explores artistic expression as a means of individual and collective survival through incarceration. Commissioned and co-curated by Kate Kraczon, Director of Exhibitions and Chief Curator of the Brown Arts Institute (BAI), and Thea Quiray Tagle, Ph.D., Associate Curator at The Bell Gallery at Brown University, the mixed-media installation employs carceral materiality—concrete, fabric, and steel—as projection surfaces. Within, the artists highlight interviews with former political prisoners captured on location in Palestine.
