With “Gilding the Lily,” artist and designer Chris Wolston punctuates The Future Perfect’s New York townhouse with an entirely new body of design pieces that range from sand-cast aluminum and bronze works to wool wall tapestries woven in Morocco. For the exhibition, Wolston responds to art historian Irene Sargent’s 1902 critique of the Art Nouveau movement’s “wavy line,” and its power to seduce those inhabiting the world of decorative arts. Wolston’s works align a sculptural sense of wonder with texture and utility.
