Rarify’s first exhibition spotlights Skidmore, Owings & Merrill’s furniture legacy.
Opening February 10 at LuisaViaRoma New York, independent, designer-led furniture and lighting company Rarify’s first-ever public exhibition will spotlight an often overlooked facet of architecture, engineering, and interior design firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill (SOM). Featuring a largely unseen body of work, including 60 pieces of furniture and 100 archival artifacts (all drawn from Rarify’s collection), the exhibition aligns with SOM’s 90th anniversary. “Building this collection and learning about this body of work within SOM’s past has been a years-long effort across thousands of hours,” Rarify founder David Rosenwasser tells Surface. “Since relatively early on in the formation of this collection, it’s been a dream to find a venue to showcase these works that would be grand enough to do justice to the pieces themselves, though refined and minimal enough to not overpower the furniture aesthetically.”
