Sense of place was top of mind for Parts and Labor, the designers behind the newly opened Thompson hotel, in Nashville’s up-and-coming Gulch neighborhood. “There’s something in the air here that we wanted to capture,” co-founder Andrew Cohen says. So he and his partner, Jeremy Levitt, went straight to the source, enlisting the city’s creative set as collaborators. All amenities have ties to Music City—from the lobby record collection by Jack White’s Third Man Records to subscription cocktail purveyor WithCo’s bottled drinks. Those touches pair well with the interiors, a layered mixture of deep-hued leather, streamlined woodwork, and sculptural lighting in the 224 rooms and Marsh House, a Southern-influenced seafood spot by James Beard Award-winning chef John Besh. From the metal-edged furnishings to Besh’s crawfish-stuffed flounder, the property feels at home in Nashville, something Cohen hopes will appeal to locals too. “Everybody is so inviting here; this place is meant to be fun, about music. We want people to come and flop down on their way home from their job. It doesn’t feel like a place where there’s a doorman.” Rates start at $399. thompsonhotels.com
