MoMA PS1 will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a free block party.

MoMA PS1 will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a free, daylong block party on April 18 in Long Island City, activating the museum’s plaza, courtyard, and galleries. The event—held during the opening weekend of its “Greater New York” exhibition—features artists, musicians, DJs, workshops, and local vendors, alongside talks and family-friendly programming. Framed as a large-scale community celebration, the block party highlights MoMA PS1’s legacy as a hub for experimental art and neighborhood engagement over the past five decades.

Dr. Melissa Chiu has been appointed director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum.

Melissa Chiu, director of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden since 2014, has been appointed director of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York, where she will begin her role on September 1. Her move is part of a broader leadership restructuring at the Guggenheim Foundation, as current director Mariët Westermann shifts focus to overseeing the institution’s global network, including Venice, Bilbao, and Abu Dhabi. Chiu, widely credited with transforming the Hirshhorn into a leading contemporary art institution, brings extensive international experience and a track record of expanding audiences and programming to one of the world’s most prominent museums.

Stefano Gabbana resigned from Dolce & Gabbana.

Dolce & Gabbana co-founder Stefano Gabbana has stepped down as chairman, with CEO Alfonso Dolce assuming the role, as the company navigates financial pressure and strategic uncertainty. The move comes as the privately held Italian fashion house faces roughly €450 million in debt and ongoing refinancing talks, amid a broader slowdown in the global luxury market. Gabbana is reportedly weighing options for his ownership stake, signaling potential shifts in control as the brand explores ways to stabilize finances while continuing to invest in growth areas like beauty.

The participants for Upstate Art Weekend 2026 have been announced.

Running June 25-29, the seventh edition of Upstate Art Weekend (UAW) will include 160 participants throughout ten counties in the Hudson Valley and Catskills. The esteemed roster ranges from Storm King Art Center, Dia Art Foundation, Foreland, and Jack Shainman Gallery / The School, to Art Omi, Wassaic Project, Kaatsbaan Cultural Park, Manitoga / The Russel Wright Design Center, PS21 : Center for Contemporary Performance, and more. Once again, art will act as a unifying force throughout the culturally rich region.

L.A.’s Getty Center will close for renovations in 2027.

The Getty Center in Los Angeles will close for approximately one year beginning March 15, 2027, undertaking its most significant modernization since opening in 1997. The project will overhaul galleries, infrastructure, and visitor amenities—including the tram system, Welcome Hall, and campus-wide upgrades—aimed at improving accessibility, sustainability, and overall visitor experience. During the closure, the Getty Villa will remain open and host programming and selected works, with the main campus expected to reopen in spring 2028 ahead of the Los Angeles Olympics.
