Mimicking Marshall

A Twitter user noticed a resemblance between a Kerry James Marshall painting and Frank Ocean’s cover art for his recent single, “Lens.” Marshall has said that the painting, “A Portrait of the Artist as a Shadow of His Former Self,” was itself inspired by Ralph Ellison’s “The Invisible Man.” The cycle continues.
