Designer of the Day

Designer of the Day: Marina Moscone

“Impeccable” and “elegant” are words often associated with Marina Moscone's eponymous fashion line, which she co-founded in 2016 with her sister Francesca after ascending to the role of design director at Peter Som. Now, Moscone, a Parsons alumna and New Yorker by way of Vancouver, has turned her eye for materiality to the home with the launch of Casa, a collection of loungewear and decor as an extension of her namesake line. Texture—in the form of woven knits and fine fil-coupé fringe—is a recurring motif in Moscone's fashion pieces, and makes a noteworthy appearance in Casa, which also showcases her expertise at draping Florentine leather.

Here, we ask designers to take a selfie and give us an inside look at their life.

Hometown: Vancouver, Canada.

Studio Location: Manhattan.

Describe what you make: I make luxury ready-to-wear and accessories for women. My brand is known for its impeccable tailoring, modern silhouettes, and an unwavering commitment to Italian quality and craftsmanship. I recently launched Casa, a range of products for the home.

The most important thing you’ve designed to date: The architectural and interior renovation of Via Roma, my family’s home in the Abruzzo region of Italy.

Describe the problem your work solves: Casa consists of unique pieces for the home that are different from anything available in the market. The artisanal, and custom-designed textiles we use aren’t typically seen in home collections which is especially exciting for us.

Describe the project you are working on now: Marina Moscone Casa is a range of artfully-designed products for the home. I started developing this collection when I was overseeing the renovation of my family’s home in Italy, and this project was the creative catalyst that spurred the creation of Casa. The collection mirrors the aesthetic of my ready-to-wear collection and uses a lot of the same fabrics and textiles. Items include throw pillows, blankets, pajamas, small leather goods, and more. Casa is a natural extension of the warm, yet minimalist mood of the world of Marina Moscone.

A new or forthcoming project we should know about: Casa just launched in time for the holiday gifting season on www.marinamoscone.com. We are also launching our first handbag collection which debuts in Spring 2023.

What you absolutely have to have in your studio: Sant Eustachio espresso from Rome; Amaretti from Abruzzo (my home region in Italy); a growing stack of art books; iTunes playlists made by me from my trips; monochromatic flowers arranged by me.

What you do when you’re not working: Drink Italian red wine. I’m a Knight of the Wines and Truffles of Alba, so it’s next level wining. Play tennis. Extend work trips into long weekends and persuade friends to meet me. Life is too short to not take advantage of these types of opportunities!

Sources of creative envy (dead or alive): I don’t creatively compare myself with anyone.

The distraction you want to eliminate: Mental clutter.

Knits and leather were on display in Marina Moscone's Fall/Winter 2022 collection, which is in stores now.
