Opening Shot is a column that peeks inside new hotels, restaurants, bars, and shops with interiors to drool over.

Name: Hoff Sneakers

Designer: Ciszak Dalmas

Location: Madrid

On Offer: Located on Madrid’s bustling Calle Velazquez, a new storefront for the cult Spanish footwear brand Hoff stuns and calms in equal measure. Awash in a pleasing melange of neutral tones, the carefully considered interior scheme gently backdrops the brand’s colorful array of unisex footwear, enabling each piece to assert itself as a one-of-a-kind artwork. The brief? “Conceptualize a space beyond a traditional sneakers retail environment and to highlight Hoff’s commitment to purity, clean lines, and simple geometries in their products,” Ciszak Dalmas founders Alberto Gobbino Ciszak and Andrea Caruso Dalmas say of the interior.

Standout Features: “Sneakers are the protagonists of the store,” Ciszak and Dalmas admit, “and the finishes of the interiors orbit around these focal points.” They certainly speak to Hoff’s “sole” by featuring muted colors of pale greens, gray gradients, and soft pinks and purples, with an earthy material palette of marble and stone to match. These textures outfit an entirely custom array of lacquered metal displays, unfinished walls, and rough stone tables, allowing the footwear to take center stage. Pops of Yves Klein Blue, meanwhile, lend an eye-catching contrast and speak to Hoff’s philosophy of design and empowerment (“Follow your sole” and “The world is our stage” appear in customizable blue lettering on wall displays.)
