Opening Shot

Designer Joseph Dirand Imbues a Greenhouse Vibe into a New Vegetable-Driven Restaurant in Manhattan

Inside a new condo tower by architect Norman Foster in Midtown East, Michelin-grade chef Alain Verzeroli and Dirand team up to open Le Jardinier.

Opening Shot is a column that peeks inside new hotels, restaurants, bars, and shops with interiors to drool over.

Le Jardinier

Location: New York

Designer: Joseph Dirand

On offer: Renowned French architect Joseph Dirand is behind the look of the  light-filled space with an abundance of green, from mint tones in the marble walls and floors to the mossy-hued velvet chairs. The modernist interior feels like a lush greenhouse thanks to leafy plants that line the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Standout features: Reflecting the planty aesthetic, Joël Robuchon protege Alain Verzeroli turns out a vegetable-driven menu using classic French techniques. The light cuisine includes dishes such as white asparagus and blood orange topped with a buckwheat puff, and farro risotto enriched by violet artichokes, spring peas, and paprika. Del Posto alum Roberto Longo’s extensive wine list draws on the French regions of Champagne, Burgundy, and Bordeaux.
