The annual collectible design fair celebrates its fifteenth anniversary by exploring the theme “Elements: Earth,” which was set by inaugural curatorial director Aric Chen to riff on the planet’s material future. The theme clearly manifests in Virgil Abloh’s “sinking” furniture, a highlight of Carpenters Workshop Gallery’s booth after displaying at the Venice Biennale, which is currently fighting off the city’s climate change–induced rising sea levels. Other participating galleries include Cristina Grajales Gallery, which presents a solo exhibition of works by visionary stage director Robert Wilson, and R & Company, which partnered with the Corning Museum of Glass on a presentation of objects by artists Jeff Zimmerman and Rogan Gregory. Perhaps the fair’s most viral attraction is a sofa stuffed with Balenciaga discards, masterminded by Crosby Studios founder Harry Nuriev, which you’ve likely already seen on Instagram.
