The seventh edition of the noted art fair assembles more than 190 galleries from 30 countries, presenting highlights such as solo exhibitions of David Hockney (Pace Gallery) and Betye Saar (Roberts Projects), and curated shows on environmental concerns (Chi-Wen Gallery) and homoerotic art from Latin America (Henrique Faria). Read on for more programs that are new to this year’s fair.

“For Your Infotainment: Hudson and Feature Inc.”
The fair inaugurates its new themed section with a show commemorating the legacy of art dealer Hudson and his boundary-pushing gallery, Feature Inc. Shown here are the works of artists who have been associated with the gallery in the ’80s and ’90s, including Raymond Pettibon, Takashi Murakami, and Tom of Finland.

Frieze Artist Award
Winner of the New York fair’s first Frieze Artist Award—which supports the realization of a major site-specific work at the fair—Paris-based artist Kapwani Kiwanga unveils an imposing open-air installation, crafted with industrial metal and agricultural fabric, which examines the tension between the politics of exclusion and freedom of movement.

Allied Editions
A newcomer to the fair this year, the collective of nonprofit institutions (including New York’s Artists Space, CCS Bard, and Sculpture Center; and London’s Camden Art Centre and ICA) offers visitors the opportunity to buy specially commissioned works by leading artists at affordable prices. Proceeds from the sales directly support these organizations’ programs.

Live
For its debut in New York, this segment invites galleries to stage performances and interactive projects throughout the fair. Curated by Adrienne Edwards, scholar, writer, and curator-at-large at Minneapolis’s Walker Art Center, this year’s program is themed on street performance and protest marches.
