According to the Portland-based artist Lauren Fensterstock, her Swarovski-encrusted assemblages of crystals, quartz, glass, and antique beads are meant to augment the soul rather than adorn the body. Her show of 15 ornate new works stops viewers in their tracks—an intended effect to inspire moments of reflection that revolve around the harmony of the natural world. Here, Fernsterstock harnesses her knowledge of Buddhist text The Flower Ornament Scripture to inform the constellation of lotuses, gems, and stalagmite blooms on view.
