New Work by Magdalene A.N. Odundo DBE
May 8, 2021 - June 26, 2021
Salon 94:
3 E 89th Street,
New York, NY 10128

Handmade using English red clay and water, Magdalene Odundo’s vessels appear effortless yet are months in the making. Her latest series, on view at Salon 94 for her first solo exhibition since 1991, maintain a trademark orange and display deep, smoky, iridescent blacks attained through an alchemical process. “My intention is always to push for a centerpiece that gives thought to future progression of the concept of symmetry or asymmetry,” Odundo says of her vessels, which feature swollen forms. “The work was made after being very ill. I was more concerned with encapsulating the power of healing that can be contained in a clay vessel.”
