Despont: Modern Renaissance Man” offers a comprehensive immersion into the creative genius of the France-born, New York City-based architect, designer, and artist. The multifaceted exhibition recreates key elements from Despont’s personal spaces—including his Harrison Street office in Tribeca, and his art studio in the Hamptons. This includes the lifesized rhino sculpture, composed of resin and shearling, that graced his studio, along with other personal artifacts, ephemera, and items from his cabinet of curiosities. Despont’s celestial moon painting and assemblage sculptures, as well as his furniture and decor pieces underscore his artistic contributions to the world. Despont’s exquisite touch was felt from the Ritz Paris to the Getty Center and Casa Cipriani; this selling exhibition tells the story behind it.
