Within the gallery of The Visitor Center, a new shop (and soft serve window) in Fire Island Pines, the exhibition Sun & Skin presents an engrossing suite of intimate portraiture by the Brooklyn-based artist Cole Puetz. The exhibit, composed primarily of oil-on-canvas paintings, spotlights queer identity through scenes of isolation and connection—sometimes amidst beachside splendors. Through his nuanced approach to realism, Puetz deftly conveys the way thoughts and emotions alter a subject’s physical presence.
