Cj Hendry fills a shallow pool at Salon 94 Design with nearly one million pastel beads.
Artist Cj Hendry has transformed Salon 94 Design into a whimsical, bead-filled world for “Pastel,” on view August 6–16. Visitors are asked to remove their shoes, slip on custom socks, and step into a shallow pool filled with hundreds of thousands of beads. A poster acts as a guide to select designs, which include dice, animals, flowers, smiley faces, and more. Each visitor receives two lengths of string to assemble the pastel beads into a necklace, bracelet, or charm to be taken home. Together, it manages to soothe and excite experientially. The installation continues Hendry’s practice of creating participatory exhibitions that move beyond conventional gallery viewing and follows projects including her large-scale Flower Market installations and permanent Flower Shop in SoHo.

The award coincides with Venice’s presentation of Guadagnino’s Joie de Vivre, a 435-minute documentary about Bernardo Bertolucci, screening out of competition in the Venice Open – Films on Films section and conceived as an exploration of the influential Italian director’s films, art, life, and legacy.
Jil Sander expands Thonet furniture collection.
Jil Sander and German furniture manufacturer Thonet have expanded their JS. THONET collection with new interpretations of the S 411 lounge chair and S 1070 table, continuing a collaboration that marks Sander’s first venture into furniture design. The S 411, based on a Thonet design from 1932, retains its distinctive tubular-steel frame while introducing full leather upholstery and a matching footstool, while the 220-by-100-centimeter S 1070—originally designed by Glen Oliver Löw in 2004—features a split tabletop that allows contrasting finishes. Both are offered in two material palettes: SERIOUS, combining titanium-toned metal, glossy wood, and dark leathers, and NORDIC, pairing matte nickel-silver with white-pigmented oak and lighter leather tones; each piece is engraved with the JS. THONET signature.

Marri Ngarr artist Ryan Presley has won the 2026 Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Award (NATSIAA), receiving the A$100,000 top prize for his oil painting Our Lifestyle of Tranquility Undisturbed. The Renaissance-inspired work depicts a young Indigenous man and draws on European art history, including the work of Italian Mannerist Domenico Beccafumi, while adapting that visual language to Indigenous experience, history, and autonomy. Born in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) and now based on Yugambeh Country in Logan, Queensland, Presley is also known for his politically engaged Blood Money series; his winning work was selected from 64 works drawn from 221 entries for the 43rd edition of NATSIAA, presented by the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory in Darwin.
