FOG Design+Art names 76 exhibitors for its 2027 San Francisco fair.

FOG Design+Art has announced 76 exhibitors for its 2027 edition, which runs January 21–24 at San Francisco’s Fort Mason Center for the Arts. The fair received 30 percent more applications than last year, and its exhibitor count is up 20 percent, adding 13 participants. The main FOG pavilion will feature 47 galleries, including David Zwirner, Gladstone, Hauser & Wirth, Lehmann Maupin, Perrotin, and Taka Ishii Gallery. The Focus section will include P.P.O.W, Night Gallery, Anat Ebgi, and a number of Bay Area galleries. To accommodate the growth, the fair is reworking its layout, expanding the Focus pavilion onto a second floor and adding about seven booths to the main hall.

Anselm Kiefer’s Schwarze Flocken goes on view for the first time in a pavilion built just for it.

Anselm Kiefer’s Schwarze Flocken (2007), a painting considered too large to exhibit for nearly two decades, went on public view for the first time last week in a freestanding pavilion built specifically to house it. The concrete structure, designed by David Chipperfield Architects, sits in the sculpture garden of Museum Würth 2 in Künzelsau, Germany, at the southwestern edge of the Carmen Würth Forum, which the firm also designed. The work measures more than 36 feet high and 23 feet wide and is Kiefer’s largest piece in the Würth Collection. Kiefer collaborated directly with the architects on the roughly 1,500-square-foot space, helping determine its proportions, the placement of its openings, and the color and texture of its walls. The painting hangs alone at the center of the room beneath a skylight, so that shifting weather and daylight become part of the viewing experience.

Peter Simon’s collection sets a Christie’s London record at $142.3 million.

Christie’s brought in $289.4 million across two evening sales in London, more than double the total from last year’s equivalent auctions. The collection of Peter Simon, founder of British retailers Monsoon and Accessorize, totaled $142.3 million, the highest result for a single-owner collection at Christie’s London. The 41-lot sale was led by Francis Bacon’s Figure in Movement, which sold for $22.8 million to a bidder in the room. Hurvin Anderson’s Last House (2013) fetched $7.5 million, and Portia Zvavahera’s This is where I travelled (2020) set an artist record of $407,000. The 20th/21st Century Evening Sale followed, with 45 lots bringing in $147 million. Its top lot, Wassily Kandinsky’s Das bunte Leben (1907), sold for $41.8 million after nearly 20 bids. Records were also set for Bridget Riley, whose Streak 2 (1979) sold for $6.9 million, and Liubov Popova, whose Painterly Architectonic (1918) brought $10.1 million, nearly four times her previous high from 2007.

The V&A, Science Museum, and Natural History Museum will host a South Asian arts festival in 2027.

Serendipity Arts, the Indian nonprofit behind South Asia’s largest multidisciplinary arts festival, will launch a London edition from June 19–27, 2027. The festival is being organized with the Great Exhibition Road Festival, led by Imperial College London, and partners including the Victoria and Albert Museum, Science Museum, Natural History Museum, Royal Albert Hall, Royal College of Art, and Royal College of Music. Programming will take place across South Kensington in galleries, concert halls, cafés, and outdoor spaces, pairing established South Asian and diaspora artists with the institutions’ collections in art, science, music, film, and design. An intergenerational, all-women team will curate the festival, including Nancy Adajania, Latika Gupta, Sneha Khanwalkar, and Veeranganakumari Solanki. It also coincides with a broader V&A focus on the region, including a spring 2027 exhibition at V&A East and the 2028 reopening of its South Asia Gallery.

Bondi’s coastal walk becomes an open-air gallery for Sculpture by the Sea 2026.

Sculpture by the Sea has returned to Sydney’s Bondi Beach, installing dozens of works by artists from around the world along a 1.25-mile stretch of coastline. The annual exhibition, which organizers describe as the world’s largest free-to-the-public sculpture show, is on view through November 2. The works span a wide range of styles and materials, from geometric abstraction to figurative pieces. Among this year’s highlights are Emma Anna’s DREAM_N, which resembles an oversized Scrabble letter rack, and Andre Braun’s Surface Breach, a giant hand emerging from the ground.
