Opening Shot is a column that peeks inside new restaurants, bars, and shops with interiors to drool over.

CROWN SHY

Location: New York

Design: MN Design Professional Corporation

On Offer: Chef James Kent teamed with Del Posto vet Jeff Katz for his first solo venture, housed in the ground floor of a landmark Art Deco building in FiDi. High ceilings, soft light, and muted shades of beige set an ethereal vibe inside the 120-seat dining room appointed with copper-leather banquettes and orb lighting fixtures.

Standout features: From an open-plan kitchen, Kent and his team serve a globally focused menu, offering up plates of white bean hummus with nduja and puffed bread, gruyère fritters, and house-made cavatelli with chicken liver ragu. Pastry chef Renata Ameni lives up to her Michelin pedigree with standout dessert items like sticky toffee pudding.
