Here, we ask designers to take a selfie and give us an inside look at their life.
Name: Bennett Leifer
Occupation: Interior Designer
Instagram: @bennettleiferinteriors
Hometown: New York, NY.
Studio Location: New York, NY.
Describe what you make: Uniquely tailored interiors that blend sophisticated color palettes, historical references, and whimsical concepts.
The most important thing you’ve designed to date: A penthouse triplex, creating a ‘forever home’ for a family with whom I have worked with three times. I had the opportunity to utilize everything I have learned about them over a decade and evolve our prior work together into an incredibly unique NYC apartment.
Describe the problem your work solves: Balance. Each of my projects carries a distinct point of view while telling a story all its own, balancing a feeling of “I can see myself living here” with “this space looks like a piece of art.”
Share the project you are working on now: I am redesigning a part-time residence in Lake Tahoe for a three-time client. I’m honoring the modern forms from the architectural while curating the interiors so the clients are fully immersed with the sweeping natural views.
What you absolutely have to have in your studio: Starbucks black iced coffee with an additional shot of espresso. I love that it is consistently mediocre. Trace paper and a red pen. Air conditioning.
What you do when you’re not working: Spend time with my dog, Norman, and my partner, Rob. Play Tennis. Special projects around my CT weekend home.
Sources of creative envy (dead or alive): Versailles.
The distraction you want to eliminate: Text messages as opposed to emails.
