Gaudí’s Casa Batlló reveals its last untouched apartment, fully restored.

Casa Batlló’s third-floor apartment, the only residence in the Gaudí-designed Barcelona landmark left untouched since its 1907 construction, has reopened following a three-year restoration led by architect Xavier Villanueva and design firm OTTO Studio. The project uncovered original details hidden for over a century, including floral wall decorations buried beneath multiple layers of paint, Gaudí-made doors, and a previously unknown sculptural doorknob. The interiors, led by OTTO Studio’s Paola Navone, blend Gaudí’s original furnishings with contemporary pieces designed to feel as though they’ve always belonged. The apartment is now open to the public and available for private event rentals. The restoration coincides with “Gaudí-Miró-Gomis: Deconstructed,” a second-floor exhibition exploring connections between Gaudí, Joan Miró, and photographer Joaquim Gomis, running through January 2027.

Hollywood’s legendary Cinerama Dome to reopen by 2028.

Sony Pictures Entertainment is reviving Hollywood’s Cinerama Dome, shuttered since 2020 after former owner Pacific Theatres filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy in 2021. As part of the deal, Sony will also reopen the adjacent 14-screen complex, formerly ArcLight Cinemas, as an Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, a chain Sony acquired in 2024. The Dome itself won’t operate as a dine-in venue; instead, it will retain its historic branding and focus on repertory screenings, filmmaker series, premieres, and special events. Restoration begins next month and is expected to run through 2028. The neighboring Alamo Drafthouse complex will offer the chain’s dine-in service alongside 35mm and 70mm screening capabilities. Opened in 1963 with an 86-foot panoramic screen, the Dome was long one of the city’s top-grossing theaters and a favorite for major premieres.

Tate appoints Jessica Morgan as director, effective January 2027.

Jessica Morgan has been named the next director of the Tate, succeeding Maria Balshaw, who has led the institution since becoming its first female director in 2017. Balshaw’s nine-year tenure included major initiatives like Steve McQueen’s Year 3, a collective portrait of 76,000 London schoolchildren. Morgan currently directs the New York-based Dia Art Foundation, a role she’s held since 2015, credited with expanding Dia’s range of artists and reshaping it into a more dynamic institution. She previously worked at the Tate as a curator from 2002 to 2010 and held a senior role at Tate Modern through 2014, and has also held positions at Boston’s Institute of Contemporary Art and Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art. In her new role, Morgan will oversee Tate Modern, Tate Britain, Tate Liverpool, and Tate St Ives, taking up the post on January 1, 2027.
