More than sixty contemporary ceramic pieces from Gordon Brodfuehrer’s extensive collection invite a study of the natural imperfections that emerge on ceramic vessels during the firing process—these pools of glaze, scorch markings, cracks, and indentations are considered the keshiki (“landscapes”) of a piece, and have been celebrated as adding beauty, depth, and value to the ceramic piece since the sixteenth century.
