Exploring the Italian Arte Povera movement’s resounding influence on art and design, the latest outing between Carpenters Workshop Gallery and Marianne Boesky Gallery presents new pieces that speak to a hybrid natural-industrial language. Leading the show are new works from Italian artist Vincenzo de Cotiis, whose Crossing Over series combines recycled fiberglass, reclaimed wood, and a prehistoric fossilized rock called stromatolite to create imperfect surfaces that reveal each material’s individual histories. His pieces join the likes of Nacho Carbonell, Kostas Lambridis, Maarten Baas, Giacomo Ravagli, and Stuart Haygarth, each of whom are inspired by core tenets of the movement.
