When making his highly textural objects, Sigve Knutson rarely plans or designs anything in advance. Instead, the young Norwegian artisan allows the pure joy of putting things together guide him, an experimental yet deeply intuitive approach that results in one-of-a-kind pieces like playfully stacked shelves, cast-metal seats, and geometric sculptures. His latest works in wood, a range of metals, and “wood mud”—a mixture of wood dust and glue that Knutson uses like clay—star in his latest outing at Carwan Gallery, a whimsical gathering of handcrafted objects that put his maker’s hand on full display.
