Here, we ask designers to take a selfie and give us an inside look at their life.

Bio: Katie Kolodinski, Creative Director, Silk Laundry

Hometown: Thunder Bay

Studio Location: Barcelona

Describe what you make: Silk Laundry makes clothing with intention—pieces that I hope feel just as relevant now as they will in a decade. It’s about fewer, better designs that adapt to your life, and an ongoing conversation between fabric, form, and the way people truly wear clothes.

The most important thing you’ve designed to date: Our 90s Slip Dress. It was the first piece I created, and the catalyst for beginning Silk Laundry. It’s been with me—and our customers—for 10 years now, in each and every collection. It represents everything the brand stands for: simplicity, longevity, and a quiet confidence.

Describe the problem your work solves: We live in a world of excess, and I want to create the opposite of disposable fashion. My work is about slowing down, making things that last, and helping people build a wardrobe that reflects who they are—not just for a season, but for years.

Share the project you are working on now: We’re deep in work on our 2026 capsules and collections – refining silhouettes, experimenting with fabrics and building colour stories that will feel just as relevant years from now as they do on launch day. Each capsule is designed to connect with our core pieces while pushing the boundaries of what Silk Laundry can be. It’s about creating fewer, better pieces that adapt to real life and stand the test of time.

A new or forthcoming project we should know about: We’re about to launch CHROMA in September – a collection about the emotional impact of colour. This year also marks Silk Laundry’s 10-year anniversary, which feels surreal. So alongside new designs, we’re reflecting on a decade of building a brand we’re proud of and imagining what the next ten years could look like.

What you absolutely have to have in your studio: Good people, sunlight, notebooks and very specific pens. I can be obsessive about them and the last few years my go-to has been the Muji Gel Ink Ballpoint Cap Pen 0.38 mm. Books, headphones, paint chips I find cracking off buildings, colour swatches, small treasures I have found when traveling, and cucumbers.

What you do when you’re not working: My days are so full that when I am not working, I really love to just stay home. I like to lounge around, read a book and drink coffee in bed for as long as possible. I have two children, so life is extra full with our kids’ friends coming over, movie nights, long lunches and cleaning. I love to vacuum. I look after the animals, go on mini trips, short runs and big walks.

Sources of creative envy (dead or alive): I don’t think of it as envy — more like admiration that pushes me to keep evolving. I’m drawn to people who see the world differently and translate that into something tangible. Artists like Louise Bourgeois for her raw honesty, Georgia O’Keeffe for her ability to slow you down, and Antoni Gaudí bringing his profound study of nature and geometry to architecture.

The distraction you want to eliminate: My phone. I love how connected it makes us, but it’s the biggest culprit for pulling me out of deep creative thought.

Concrete or marble? Marble. But the interesting offcuts and colors. I want to see the pinks and greens and burgundies.

High-Rise Or Townhouse? Townhouse. I like being closer to the ground, dirt and gardens.

Remember Or Forget? Remember. It shapes us.

Aliens Or Ghosts? Ghosts

Dark Or Light? Light, but from the sun.
