Americana Diner Meets Bodega Meets Classic Arcade at This New Cannabis Dispensary

Canadian flower and fashion brand Superette debuts a new outpost in Ottawa that pairs carnivalcore aesthetics with hi-fi products.

Opening Shot is a column that peeks inside new hotels, restaurants, bars, and shops with dreamy interiors.

SUPERETTE

Location: Glebe, Ottawa

Designer: In-house

On offer: Blending the classic Americana aesthetic of a 1950s diner with the surrealism of a carnival funhouse, Superette’s new shop in Ottawa treads new ground in dispensary style. The Canadian cannabis and fashion brand looked to bodegas, candy shops, arcades, and more for inspiration, breaking from the typical tech store and high-end boutique molds. The result is a retro, technicolor transport into the fun zone, starting with the red-tiled entrance where kitschy merch such as soda bottle pipes, checkerboard patterned rolling papers, and hamburger-shaped grinders stock the shelves next to a claw machine filled with artisanal prizes.

Standout features: A vintage photo booth serves as an ID check for passage through a door made from a refurbished soda machine. A hallway lined with distorting mirrors and photoreal cloud illustrations leads patrons to the main retail space where Superette’s selection of gender-neutral wares from of-the-moment brands like Sundae School, Pure Beauty, Dope Girls, and Yew Yew are displayed alongside a suite of cannabis products. Inventory ranges from weed butter cookbooks to Ace Valley pre-rolls to Proofly CBD face cream.
