The artist’s newest body of work utilizes lush, sensual portraits of Black historical figures and sci-fi iconography to explore connections between Black people and technology. Bringing together portraits, photographs, and film, “Black Heroism & The Wounds They Carry” juxtaposes the collective history of Black people while envisioning an optimistic future in spite of our daunting sociopolitical reality. Celebrating every aspect of Black identity from spirituality to cultural achievements, the exhibition ultimately poses the question: “How do we channel our legacy of greatness to create a more equitable future?”
