MASS MoCA will host the East Coast premiere of Out Into Us (Slow Down), a large-scale, 17-minute video installation by Academy Award-nominated band Son Lux and video director Alex Cook. Commissioned by MASS MoCA, Caviar, and Pioneer Works, the expressionistic visual work acts as a counterpart to the title track of the band’s forthcoming ninth studio album, Out Into (set for release on September 18)—slowing and expanding the conventions of the music-video format. Son Lux guitarist Rafiq Bhatia reworked the composition by manipulating tempo, thus allowing visitors to linger within its shifting sonic architecture, while the installation invites audiences to experience image and sound as a unified, inhabitable landscape. The premiere coincides with the release of a limited-edition pink vinyl LP of the installation’s score, issued by Son Lux and MASS MoCA Records, with signed copies available through the museum’s Research and Development Store.
