Arianna Petrich is Reinventing How Designers Approach Small Living Spaces

For product designer Arianna Petrich, a soon-to-be graduate of the Designed Objects program at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, iteration is a key element in her designs, one of which was selected for a collaboration between SAIC and the retailer CB2.

She believes that the best way to imagine a piece is by “going to new places and observing different approaches to shaping material.” After studying art history and working as a studio manager in New York, Petrich started her own line of jewelry called Overdot, but soon realized she “wanted to be making functional objects that brought enjoyment to the everyday orbit of life.” the CB2 project aims to reinvent how designers approach small living spaces, and draws inspiration from her travels to different hypersaturated landscapes, as well as from Japanese and Islamic patterns. Her set of multicolored nesting tables went through dozens of permutations and faced many engineering challenges when sent out for sampling. So what lies ahead for this promising young innovator? Following the launch of SAIC’s collection at Spazio Rossana Orlandi during Milan Design Week, as well as her graduation in May, she plans to start her own studio.
