DESIGNER OF THE DAY

Designer of the Day: Brit Kleinman

Brit Kleinman’s clever command of pattern, process, and observation has given rise to highly coveted hand-dyed leather hides imbued with an infectious, hypnotic magnetism. The AVO founder embraces an exploratory approach to masterminding large-scale rugs, textiles, and wall coverings that become immediate statement pieces and could easily be mistaken for fine art.

The most important thing you’ve designed to date: The current thing I’m working on. I try to be present in the creative thought and excited for what I’ll know tomorrow.

Describe the problem your work solves: My work brings pause to your day, and a chance to stop and appreciate your surroundings.

Describe the project you are working on now: I’m working on woven leather rugs with fringe! Plus, we’re making a MEGA cowhide rug for a client in San Francisco, which is six hides stitched together. It’s going to be epic.

A new or forthcoming project we should know about: We have an awesome collaboration launching with Lexus this month.

What you absolutely must have in your studio: Organized chaos, sunlight, and plants. Plus, I need a good podcast while we are painting and music while doing emails.

What you do when you’re not working: Going on crazy long walks within the city. And sleeping in!

Sources of creative envy: Beatrice Santiccioli, my spirit animal.

The distraction you want to eliminate: Emails?
