R & Company Opens Up Building 86 at the Brooklyn Navy Yard

R & Company is opening a space that has, until now, been for employees only. Building 86, a 16,000-square-foot warehouse at the Brooklyn Navy Yard, has functioned for decades as storage and workspace for the gallery and its founders’ personal collections. Starting September 23rd, it will welcome collectors, designers, curators, and design-lovers alike by appointment only, offering access to the gallery’s extensive archives. The space is organized around curated vignettes rather than fixed exhibitions, allowing pieces from different eras, materials, and makers to be grouped and regrouped over time.

Co-founders Zesty Meyers and Evan Snyderman describe the format as revealing new relationships between objects even after years of familiarity with the collection. The opening aligns with a consolidation of the gallery’s public exhibition program at its Tribeca location, positioning Building 86 as a separate but connected resource. With dedicated viewing rooms, a photography studio, and conservation space, the warehouse will open up areas where research, documentation, and stewardship work happen.
