First Look: Behind the Scenes at Thom Browne Fall/Winter 2017

A peek at the fashion designer’s latest men’s collection, as captured backstage by Tom Goldblum.

Thom Browne knows better than most how to make a timeless gray suit—and that makes him well-equipped to creatively reinterpret it. For fall/winter 2017, our June/July cover subject took this classic menswear staple and distorted it. When the collection was presented on the runway in January, Browne’s signature suits appeared in many avant-garde variations: flattened in an almost cartoonish way, as button-covered body suits, and with shirt and jacket sleeves extending down to the floor.

Now, the Harris tweed ensembles are being presented in a different light. To capture the looks—and all of their theatrical glory—Browne enlisted the help of photographer Tom Goldblum, who shot a series of black-and-white behind-the-scenes images at the show. The monochromatic photos, styled by the designer himself, emphasize the exaggerated shapes of his pieces. Here, they share an exclusive look of the never-before-seen pictures with Surface.
