Tailor Made, Ferrari’s elite personalization program, has flexed its design capabilities with a new Ferrari 12Cilindri that debuted in Seoul. The reimagined vehicle incorporates the work of four young Korean artists, coordinated by COOL HUNTING founders Josh Rubin and Evan Orensten, as well as developments from the Ferrari team. The latter includes a first-of-its-kind, gradient Yoonseul paint that transitions from green to violet depending on light conditions.

From artist Dahye Jeong’s woven horsehair interior trim to Hyunhee Kim’s translucent take on the Ferrari logo, lettering, and badge (which is typically off-limits during customization) and translucent trunk boxes, the Ferrari 12Cilindri Tailor Made uses each artist collaboration as a form of cultural exchange—rooted in tradition—rather than simply ornamentation. Perhaps most surprising, electro-acoustic composing duo Graycode, Jiiiiin translated the sound of the Ferrari’s engine into a musical score which was then painted onto the bonnet.
“Designing this car with the Ferrari Tailor Made team and the Korean artists was ultimately about building bridges,” Rubin shared with Surface. “Bridges between Korea and Italy, between art and automotive, and between past and future.” Rubin and Orensten also partnered with JaeEun “Jane” Lee, who acted as the project curator.
