Generations of Design Talents Coalesce at Pratt Institute’s Legends Gala

On Nov. 9, Pratt Institute hosted its annual Legends Gala, a scholarship fundraiser and benefit that pays tribute to megawatt talents in art, design, and architecture. This year, three distinguished alumni—furniture designer Kenneth Cobonpue, architect Edward Mazria, and artist Kay WalkingStick—were honored at the historic Weylin in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. More than 200 guests attended the gala, which opened with a lively performance by the Brooklyn United Music and Arts Marching Band and Dance Team and was followed by remarks from university president Frances Bronet. Each honoree was presented with a Legend Award created by Pratt student Jessica Yan Chen, who screened a short film illustrating her design process. Notables in attendance include Patti Carpenter, Derrick Adams, Jamaal Peterman, Stephen Slaughter, Aya Maceda, Gary Hattem, and more. Photos by Memry/BFA.
