Paris-based Ronan Bouroullec and his brother, Erwan, may have designed for the likes of Samsung, Vitra, and Cappellini, but when asked about the most fundamental part of their practice, Ronan will point you to his Instagram feed. He posts drawings created in analog, mixing colorful crosshatching, undulating waves, and organic shapes. But don’t expect to scroll endlessly. Rather than drawing the viewer in, the sketches inspire an urge to create. As the brothers Bouroullec would surely advise, consuming art may nourish the soul, but making it provides a far deeper satisfaction.
